| Commitment Ceremonies |
What is a Commitment Ceremony? A commitment ceremony is very similar to a wedding. However unlike a marriage it is not legally binding. There is no legal wording to include and you are free to choose words that fit with your personal situation. It is a public affirmation of a couples commitment to one another. Generally, the couple is either lesbian, gay, or transgender, and unable to marry under Australian law. Example: Casey and Eliza Casey and Eliza wished to express their commitment to each other and had a special ceremony in a local park. Whilst their music, Dr Hook’s “Years from now” was playing Casey was escorted by her Dad from the left, and Eliza was escorted by her Uncle from the right. When the met they linked arms and walked together to where the ceremony took place. Whilst they signed their Commitment Certificate they had another of their favourite tracks playing in the background. It was Foreigner’s “Waiting for a girl like you”. Family and friends were treated to a celebration back at their home under a marquee, which apparently didn’t finish till 3am. |
